BMA seeks Bermudians for graduate programme deadline today
The Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) is looking for Bermudian graduates who want a career in financial regulation to take advantage of its graduate training programme (GTP) and the deadline to apply is today. In a statement released yesterday, the BMA said it was happy with the numbers who have already applied for the GTP, but it wants to ensure that as many qualified Bermudians as possible apply.BMA CEO Jeremy Cox said the GTP provides a unique opportunity and added that financial regulators have critical roles, both locally and overseas.“It is a fascinating career and I've had the privilege to be a regulator on behalf of Bermuda for about 20 years now,” Mr. Cox said. “I encourage any young Bermudian who is up for the challenge to apply for the GTP today. Given the importance of sound regulation to maintain local and international financial stability, it is a key goal of the BMA to resource the Authority with knowledgeable, Bermudian regulators.”In 2008, the BMA launched its three-year GTP to the first suitably qualified candidates. Since then, mandatory rotations across a number of various departments in the BMA have lasted a total of 24 months. The first GTP trainees, Vashun Blanchette and Treasa Fubler are currently out in the industry on secondments at HSBC and CD&P and beginning this autumn, they will take part in three-month secondments with overseas regulators.Upon successfully completing the GTP, the trainees will be offered full-time employment as analysts at the BMA.Mesheiah Crockwell, head of the GTP and assistant director, resourcing and technical development said: “Through guidance and mentorship, the programme is designed to ensure that each trainee becomes a key resource at the Authority and can fill technical positions within all of the Authority's various business units.“Whether they are interested in insurance, banking or the law, each trainee's programme is based on a personalised work track which supports their area of interest. The programme is demanding, but for those who feel that they are up for the challenge, it can be a very rewarding career.”To be eligible for the GTP, potential candidates must be:Bermudian.A university graduate with at a minimum, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.Intelligent and well-spoken with a strong business sense.Able to produce high quality written and oral presentations.Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of the insurance and/or financial services sectors.Committed to a career in financial regulation for three years post completion of the GTP.21 years or older.Persons interested in applying to the Programme can download an application form and a Programme brochure from the Careers section of the BMA website: www.bma,bm.
