Ace acquires stake in Indonesia insurer
Ace Limited has acquired an 80 percent stake in one of Indonesia’s top ten general insurers, PT Asuransi Jaya Proteski.The Jakarta-based company offers property, motor, accident and health insurance as well as commercial insurance coverage such as marine cargo and liability insurance. The company has an extensive distribution system throughout Indonesia.“We are pleased to complete this transaction, diversifying our business in Indonesia with a well-established personal lines insurance franchise, while expanding our accident and health and commercial property and casualty businesses,” said Damien Sullivan, regional President, ACE Asia Pacific unit.Terms of the deal were not disclosed.ACE, the Swiss insurer with a large operation here in Bermuda, has also recently inked a definitive agreement to purchase Fianzas Monterrey in Mexico from New York Life Insurance Company for nearly $285m in cash.
