Bermuda in MMC’s top five for community work

The island office of global giant Marsh and Guy Carpenter is in the top five around the world for community volunteers.

The company, part of professional services firm Marsh & McLennan, last year saw 40 per cent of its total workforce take part in voluntary work, with 1,788 hours donated to charity.

Christine Salerno, head of corporate social responsibility at Marsh & McLennan, said: “Globally, MMC is committed to giving back to the community, and I'm delighted to say that our colleagues in Bermuda went above and beyond in 2016,

“Through the hours that they have contributed over the past year, our Bermuda colleagues have proven that they are a giving and caring group of individuals. They make our entire organisation proud, and I congratulate them on everything they do for the Bermuda community.”

In recognition of the Bermuda effort, Marsh & McLennan gave a grant to the Bermuda Zoological Society, which Marsh and Guy Carpenter worked with last May as part of Marsh & McLennan's Community Giving Day, an annual firm-wide initiative to encourage the firm's staff of around 60,000 to become involved in their local communities.

The other countries in the top five were Taiwan, Austria, Portugal and the Philippines.

Around the world, Marsh & McLennan staff volunteered a total of 184,000 hours to charity.
