Deloitte makes leadership changes as Johnston retires
Longtime regional Deloitte chief executive and Bermuda office managing partner John Johnston has announced his retirement.
Anna Burns will assume the role of regional CEO at the professional services firm, as of June 1. The Bermuda practice will be led by Stephen Kuzyk, who became Bermuda office managing partner on January 1.
Mr Johnston’s career at Deloitte spanned 39 years, including two years with Deloitte Italy. He served clients in the insurance and reinsurance industry across the firm’s service offerings and became regional CEO in 2014.
The firm said that under his leadership, Deloitte diversified its business offerings, built scale in Bermuda and across the Caribbean and built a strong culture of quality, service excellence and high performance.
Mr Johnston said: “The growth and innovation in the insurance and reinsurance industry over the past four decades have been truly exceptional and I feel extremely lucky to have spent my professional career in such a dynamic and exciting period.”
He was proud of the way that generations of professionals at Deloitte had supported their clients, the jurisdiction and the Bermuda community.
“I’m excited about the future for Bermuda and know that Deloitte is in capable hands with Anna and Stephen,” he said. “I have no doubt that the firm will continue to play a key role in Bermuda’s success and prosperity”.
Mr Johnston said it had been a huge privilege to serve as regional CEO and to see Deloitte’s people and businesses thrive across the many geographies in which it operates.
“The markets, economies and opportunities are diverse, but our shared high-performance culture is pervasive and has brought solutions and value to our clients, communities and other stakeholders across the entire region,” he said.
Deloitte said Ms Burns brings deep client service experience and a strong focus on people, quality and growth.
She will lead the execution of Deloitte’s strategy across the region, working closely with her leadership teams to support clients as they navigate a rapidly evolving business environment.
Ms Burns said Deloitte’s clients were navigating increasing complexity and change.
“The firm’s priority will be to deliver the highest quality work while continuing to invest in our people and multidisciplinary capabilities,” she said.
Mr Kuzyk will be responsible for leading the Bermuda practice and strengthening relationships with clients, stakeholders and the broader community.
“Bermuda is a distinctive market with a strong record of innovation and global connectivity and I’m pleased to step into the role of Bermuda office managing partner,” Mr Kuzyk said.
“My focus will be on supporting our clients with the breadth of Deloitte’s capabilities and continuing to foster an inclusive, high-performing culture. I’m excited to work with our talented teams and with stakeholders across Bermuda as we deliver meaningful outcomes.”
