BIU divisions meeting over next steps in decertification row

No decision: BIU President Chris Furbert (File photograph)

The Bermuda Industrial Union has yet to decide if it will take further industrial action over a long-running dispute with Government.

Unionised staff began working to rule last Friday in protest at new decertification laws that give non-unionised staff a vote.

The work to rule ended at midnight on Thursday and the union was expected to make an announcement on any future action yesterday.

But BIU president Chris Furbert said that a decision had yet to be made.

He said: “The work to rule was only in place for one full week – that was the decision of the general council.

“The divisions are now meeting individually and then we will decide on any further steps.”
