Science graduate students have been offered a paid internship at a cutting-edge laboratory in Bermuda.

CariGenetics has offered a ten-week summer job for those looking to get experience in the field of genetics.

The internship is held in partnership with Roche Bermuda, the local subsidiary of a leading global health organisation.

Carika Weldon, the founder of CariGenetics, said: “This collaboration with Roche Bermuda is a significant step forward in strengthening Bermuda’s scientific workforce.

“By creating meaningful career pathways for experienced professionals, we are ensuring that our local talent can thrive in cutting-edge fields like genetics and precision medicine.

“I am grateful to Roche for their support in helping us build a future where Bermudians lead in scientific innovation and research.”

The internship is aimed at students with a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or any other related field.

It will involve members taking part in the lab’s previous research on breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Interns will get hands-on exposure to laboratory functions such as study design, DNA extraction, genetic sequencing and interpreting data.

Prospective candidates were advised that internships could evolve into full-time laboratory technician positions upon successful completion.

LaRondie Harrell, the president of Roche Bermuda, said the group’s partnership with CariGenetics reflected a “dedication to advancing science” on a local and global scale.

She added: “By supporting emerging talent in the field of genomics, we are investing in discoveries that can influence the future of precision medicine worldwide.

“Bermuda has a unique role to play in global health innovation.

“Through initiatives like this internship, we’re helping to ensure that our local scientists are part of that international conversation.”

The internship will be held between June 2 and August 8. Applications must be submitted by May 16.

Candidates interested in applying can e-mail a resume and cover letter to hr@carigenetics.com.
