Monica Sullivan has been named the managing partner of Nicolaides Fink Thorpe Michaelides Sullivan, an international law firm with many insurers in Bermuda.

Under her leadership, the firm plans to explore broadening its geographic reach and enhancing its insurance coverage capabilities in emerging risk areas.

She succeeds Richard Nicolaides Jr, an executive who focused exclusively on complex business and legal issues in the global insurance industry, working with insurers in Bermuda and other places.

From 2014, he led Nicolaides Fink Thorpe Michaelides Sullivan through sustained growth, including the expansion of the firm’s attorney headcount from 30 to nearly 100 attorneys.

Mr Nicolaides will continue to serve on the firm’s executive committee and play a lead role in further defining and implementing strategic plans.

“Monica is highly regarded within the legal profession and global insurance industry, and she has played an immeasurable role in the firm’s success over the years,” Mr Nicolaides said. “She has a deep understanding of our values and vision, making her exceptionally well suited to lead us forward and oversee the firm’s operations and strategic direction.”

Ms Sullivan helped launch the firm’s national insurance coverage practice alongside Mr Nicolaides, Matthew Fink, Barbara Michaelides and Sara Thorpe in 2014.

With more than three decades of experience in litigating and arbitrating disputes in jurisdictions across the United States and beyond, Ms Sullivan advises the global insurance industry on matters including pharmaceutical, environmental, construction and product liability claims.

She has served on the firm’s executive committee since its inception and has earned broad industry recognition, including multiple rankings in Insurance: Dispute Resolution by Chambers and Partners.

“I’m honoured to take on this role and build on the strong foundation that Richard and our leadership team have established,” Ms Sullivan said. “Our firm has always been driven by collaboration, integrity and a commitment to client service.”
