BDA MPs should return to UBP

Merger talks: (from left) The Bermuda Democratic Alliance's Donte Hunt, Mark Pettingill and Shawn Crockwell follow the United Bermuda Party's John Barritt and Grant Gibbons at last year's Throne Speech.

January 27, 2011Dear Sir,In reference to all your stories about the will they or won't the UBP and BDA get together, I wanted to state what seems to be obvious. The BDA is comprised of some non-productive malcontents, most of whom the UBP is best off without. They should stop making demands for a return to the UBP with their tails between their legs and be thankful for what they can get. The truth is that they have very little to offer the voters or the UBP. However, right now politics demand that the UBP make concessions to them, not to get the individuals back but to get the seats back. Clearly if the two parties stay apart both are doomed and the PLP, especially with its new popular leader, is guaranteed continued success for years.Have the BDA politicians learned nothing from the days when the PLP split, Sir John Swan called an election, and the UBP won a large majority and it took years for the PLP to rebuild? That will happen if the UBP and the BDA stay apart.WATCHINGPaget
