Where are the ads?
This was sent to Premier Paula Cox and copied to The Royal GazetteMarch 21, 2011Madame Premier,Today I’d briefly caught a discussion being held amongst various Ministers in reference to the situation in St George’s, and tourism as a whole. In particular, my attention had been drawn to a briefing from the Minister of Tourism Ms Minors (but before I go on further, let me mention I didn’t “catch this show” from the beginning and consequently am not sure of what has changed since it was held.) Anyway, the point I did want to bring to your attention is that she had (Minister P Minors) touched on a topic that my ears perked up to. She mentioned a survey had been taken overseas on where we (Bermuda) stand on the “hypothetical scale” of destination to visit, and on Bermuda’s advertisements etc.Madame Premier, I have yet to see Bermuda advertised on any of the several hundred channels we have at our house…Something is wrong here. With all these millions of dollars said to be spent on advertising Bermuda, don’t you think we should at least see them from time to time? When we /I pick up a magazine, there aren’t any Bermuda adverts … if there are, then please someone show me. We don’t have tourists because we aren’t being promoted as we were in the years gone by. How is it that we see so many adverts of the Bahamas and other Islands/ Countries who are far worse off economically than us? (They are way behind Bermuda) yet they’re being blasted across all the major TV stations in the US, Canada etc.RAYMOND RAYSt. George’s
