Opera on the Rock well worth it
Opera on the RockMay 22, 2011Dear Sir,Yesterday I attended the Opera in Bermuda. Virtually of course, but the projected performance was so satisfying it was easily worth the $35 ticket. A new audio surround system in the BUEI theatre made the HD version of the Metropolitan Opera ( NYC) performance of Lucia de Lammermoor an immersive experience. This DVD version of the very popular live broadcasts from the Met met all expectations for an afternoon at the Opera. Facial expressions, including glistening sweat and sparkling eyes during close-ups were even more impacting than if one were to attend in New York with a $200 ticket! The Intermissions were filled with interviews of the performers and stage managers by Renée Fleming. Seats were aplenty and the audience classy yet casual. The overwhelmingly female audience dressed in comfortable Bermuda attire, although at least two tiaras were seen atop coifs.Sponsored by the Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Bermudians will have five more summertime operatic weekend opportunities.
