PE is extremely important

May 28, 2011Dear Sir,I would like to make a point in reference to our schoolchildren getting more exercise. In spite of the fact that there are after school programmes encouraging those that want to participate an opportunity to enrol, this method of encouraging children to get more exercise does not suffice because “the vast majority of children will not remain after their regular school hours and partake in any extra-curricular activities, let alone sports, due to their lack of interest in sports”.So, contrary to what the Acting Education Minister Walter Roban said, “that Dr Grant Gibbons was misrepresenting the true situation, because Government has been making great efforts to encourage children to exercise more”, the point is there should be allotted time specifically for PE, as we once called it. Physical Education had been and still is extremely important for numerous reasons which I am sure I do not need to explain.RAYMOND RAYSt. George’s
