Horrified by medical staff
May, 2011Dear Sir,I visited your Island recently. It is so picturesque: beautiful beaches and very interesting history. I read your paper daily and continue to do so via the Internet. I am a senior nursing sister of many years experience in UK and other countries.I was amazed and horrified really to see vast numbers of nursing/medical staff out in the community (in shops on bikes, etc) not only wearing their uniforms but even “dare I say it” too lazy even to remove their theatre overshoes and paper caps.I pray they didn't continue to wear them on their return to duty. If accreditation teams saw this and can't miss it as so many do it — would the hospital pass? Doubtful. And does your only hospital have an excessively high infection rate?I sincerely hope that the relevant infection control staff will deal with this serious matter. I did notice a special wash your hands week. I as a visitor complied. I did not witness staff using this facility too often.A CONCERNED FELLOW PROFESSIONAL AND MEMBER OF THE PUBLICHertfordshire, UK
