We are not powerless

August 23, 2011Dear Sir,Congratulations to the People of Bermuda for coming together to help each other during the bus strike by carpooling. That proves that while the Government does not have an emergency solution to such industrial action, we can find a way to work as one. It is heartening to know that we have a collective conscience and are resilient and can adapt to come to the aid of our neighbours, friends, colleagues, and even strangers. And to Mr. Earlston Thompson and the other anonymous drivers who crossed the picket line to continue working, you have the type of integrity and principles that our Government and union leaders sadly lack. This government will continue its practice of hiding the incompetence of its ministries’ staff unless they are dealt a severe blow in the next general election. They have not held up to their 1998 election platform of “accountability” and “transparency” in the “sunshine of Public scrutiny.” They are not worthy of our trust.Chris Furbert and his cronies must be voted out by the union members. With each frivolous strike they lose credibility.Until the union provides their financials from 2000 until present and replace Furbert and his minions, boycott the union. Boycott all of their events. Boycott all of the businesses that they own, including any owned by their officers. Hit them where it hurts … in their pocket. If at the end of arbitration, Ms Harvey gets her job back, boycott the buses. Look for a carpool from your area or within your place of employment, as some offices have started their own rideshare initiatives. The People are not as powerless or as stupid as the union likes to think.A REGISTERED VOTERPembroke
