Retrograde step

September 14, 2011

Dear Sir,

Yesterday in our mailbox was a notice from the Ministry of Public Works with the new schedule of recycling dates for the rest of 2011, informing householders that there is now to be a fortnightly pick up of our “blue bags”.

I have been recycling since its inception on the Island, (remember the skips outside the MarketPlace and elsewhere?) and faithfully put out our bags each week. Please explain to me in simple English what the thought process is in this retrograde step.

The excuse given is that most people are not bothering to recycle, so in order to encourage them to do so, the powers that be have decided to cut the service.

This is not the way to instil a recycling programme. I for one will now stop as I do not wish to have trash lying around for two weeks!
