Shocked by gas guzzlers

September 22, 2011Dear Sir,On my recent return to this lovely island, I was rather taken aback to see the size of vehicles now being registered as private cars.It was bad enough before I left six years ago with vehicles like Toyota RAV 4s and Mitsubishi Pajeros creeping onto the private register, but now I see private car registrations on vehicles like Jeeps. Why? Not only are they much bigger than anyone should reasonably need for a private car, but they must guzzle gas at a horrendous rate, and many of the roads such as Harbour Road and Spice Hill Road simply aren’t wide enough to cope with vehicles that size, especially if two of them meet going in opposite directions. And, let’s be honest, it’s not as though anywhere in Bermuda is that far from civilisation!DAVIE KERRSmith’s
