Nothing in life is free

October 1, 2011Dear Sir,With reference to our massive debt, please consider this. The Government of the day has given away many Government services for free, but what is free for one, inevitably costs others in the long run. Employees, buildings, vehicles, transportation and education all come with a cost. Everything must be paid for.I suggest that the price tag be affordable, not free. What if the elderly and students were given a discount on all transportation, taxes and education? There could be an application/interview process for those that absolutely cannot afford to pay a fee. If the applicant is approved, then and only then should something be free. We should all pay for these services, but the service should be fair and affordable. Even Public Education should have a small fee attached. Most people can afford to pay something. Many people can in fact more than afford to pay something. I believe the Minister has now implemented a zero percent return to retailer’s pay roll tax. I realise she is trying to help businesses, but this will in fact exacerbate the problem. How is the debt to be reduced when it’s free? Offer a discount, a reduction or a rebate, but not free.SYDNEYPage
