They must give respect
October 4, 2011Dear Sir,Personal integrity should be a priority for all those black Bermudians wishing to represent other black Bermudians (primarily). Unfortunately that is not always so. An attitude of casual indifference and a sense of a lack of importance concerning the indebtedness of black Bermudians towards other black Bermudians not only creates a sense of distrust in the values of the organisation which the represent but is also a reflection of the lack of value and the lack of respect which black Bermudians so often demonstrate towards other black Bermudians. It is this lack of value for each other which has caused so many of the numerous problems which beset the black community and is often the obstacle to their successful solutions.I can only hope that the Progressive Labour Party will place the personal integrity of its candidates, towards others whom they wish to represent, at the top of its list of values and ideals. This is particularly true for this new generation who have not had to make the sacrifices of the older generation and who may be more interested in the rewards and privileges and not in service and the struggle for greater justice for the community that they propose to represent. After all it is primarily those in the black Bermudian community which has given them the opportunity to govern and they should be valued and given the respect, both individually and collectively, for that at least.Eva N.
