Fix the street lights

October 12, 2011Dear Sir,It seems that my calls to Belco have not had the desired effect, so maybe my letter to you will do the trick!I was returning to my home on Cobbs Hill, Warwick last night from Hamilton just after 10 pm using South, then Middle Road. I noted that there are at least five unlit street lamps in this stretch of road, one of which seems to have been directly responsible for an accident involving one of the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar. Fortunately, his shoulder injury did not prevent him performing the night after the accident, even though he was in considerable pain. After all, the show must go on!While riding to work on Harbour Road early one morning last week, I almost hit a pedestrian close to the junction with Valley Road because of another unlit street lamp. There are a number of unlit lights on the stretch of road between Cobbs Hill and Red Hole, Paget. Driving on Harbour Road is always somewhat of a challenge, a challenge which is made more so at night in areas which are unlit because of defective street lights.May I suggest to Belco that they should hire several unemployed people to drive around all of the roads in Bermuda and identify the unlit lights so that the safety of pedestrians and drivers is not compromised.JOHN BARNETTWarwick
