Stop this Madness

October 11, 2011Dear Sir,On any given day, at any given time, on any given road in Bermuda, you can guarantee there will always be serious traffic offences taking place with impunity, particularly speeding. The stretch of Middle Road between Barnes Corner and Somerset Bridge is a virtual racetrack for all forms of transport including large container trucks. The police are totally ineffective and stategically locate themselves in full view just past Barnes Corner to flag down traffic from South Road. They openly admit it is pointless trying to apprehend speeding bikes because they are too fast and disappear down Tribe Roads without a trace. It is a lot easier for them to deal with unsuspecting motorists failing to stop at stop signs or to implement the stupid seatbelt law. When are we going to have speed cameras installed to stop this madness? They are used everywhere else in the world with great effect, why not here? The technology is available, so let’s spend some money and get the speed limit under control (or at least under 50kph) to make the roads safer for law abiding citizens. Heavy fines and auctioning off the offending vehicles would soon repay the cost of the equipment.WHO’S KIDDING WHOWarwick
