Sentence was too short

Dr Conrad Murray

Not long enough in prisonDecember 5, 2011Dear Sir,While reading Wednesday November 30 newspaper, I came across the article about Michael Jackson’s doctor getting the mandatory sentence of only four years in jail. I am appalled at this sentence as I think it is too short for the crime that Dr Conrad Murray committed. Michael Jackson’s death was caused by the drugs that Dr Murray injected into him. I understand that Michael Jackson wanted these drugs but as a doctor, he should have known the amount of drugs to administer before it becomes an overdose which happened in Mr Jackson’s case, unfortunately. The sentence for manslaughter is to go to jail for life (25 years) so giving Dr Murray only four years is not enough. Some people may argue and say that Mr Jackson paid this doctor to give him the drug and it was his say to how much of the drug he wanted to take. Dr Murray knew that it wasn’t right to be administering such a heavy “sleeping drug” to Mr Jackson even though Mr Jackson was stressed out. Being a professional, you should know what is wrong and what is right when it comes to the health and safety of people and especially as Dr Murray was a personal doctor to Jackson. The drug that Dr Murray gave Jackson was a drug only administered by a doctor at the hospital as it is illegal to have it in your possession outside of the hospital. It is too strong for personal use and overdose can cause the death of the person given it to. Since Dr Murray used this drug outside of the hospital he should get fined for that on top of the death that he caused. I don’t think that the court/lawyers are looking into this case as deeply as they should as they need to realise that he has committed two offences. If Dr Murray was worth the amount of money that Jackson paid for him then he shouldn’t be making the “mistakes” that were made to cause the death of him. Jackson paid Dr Murray millions of dollars to be there to give him the drugs and make sure his health was stable. Clearly Dr Murray wasn’t using the correct equipment or even any equipment at all to make sure that Jackson’s health was stable before he gave him more of the dangerous “sleeping” drug. Mr Jackson was on the verge of death and the last dose killed him. How would you feel if it was one of your family members died by a drug given to them by a “professional” doctor? Maybe the judges need to make it more personal to them so that a more reasonable sentencing could have come into place.KATIE TESTERSt George’s
