Wake up, Bermuda!December 18, 2011Dear Sir,I have been a yearly visitor to your Island since college week of 1966. Bermuda was always a place with friendly people, low crime and beautiful scenery. It is my ideal vacation choice from my very hectic life in the US and I keep in touch by reading The Royal Gazette online every day. I was totally appalled and sickened by reading about this elderly woman that is being treated like dirt by the Bermudian Government. What has happened to your Island that you would treat an elderly and sick person like this? In the US we treat convicted murderers better than this poor woman is being treated. I applaud her neighbour who is doing what she can to help and I condemn those who have not.Your Island needs a wake up call in what is important in life and how very precious human life is. Bermuda is now full of crime and greed and rather than concentrating on the people that need help, you are more concerned with making the Island a destination for wealthy vacationers. I hope the people of Bermuda will find a way to help this woman and let her live her remaining years comfortably and with dignity. The elderly have given all of us a great gift of experience and wisdom and we should value them rather than discard them like an old shoe.Wake up, Bermuda, time is running out!JACQUELINE GRIBBONManchester, Connecticut
