Something dreadfully wrong

April 7, 2012Dear Sir,Below is a blog that I posted in response to The Royal Gazette's article on line re the Good Friday shooting and machete attacks.“You can have all of the education in the world, but if you don't have any common sense you might as well throw all of your degrees away.“We have a generation of young people through no fault of their own that have been neglected by home and Government. Our educational system is partly to blame for not making education interesting enough for these young men to stay in school, and probably most of the parents or parent haven't got a clue. This is where ignorance comes in, and when you have ignorant parents who don't know the first thing about parenting, and whose children are neglected and unloved and unwanted, then chances are they are going to have misfits as children who are frustrated, confused, angry so therefore, they become gang members for the want of belonging and there lies the problem.“But, on the other hand, we all know right from wrong! We know it is wrong to maim or kill someone. We know it is wrong to rape some teenage girl or woman. We know it is wrong to break into someone home and steal that person's belongings — and if these young men as I said in an earlier blog, were taught values and how to respect life and others in their earlier years when growing up, we probably would not be having the violence that we are now facing. Then you have to look at the whole, sad, picture. Every face that I have seen going to jail for these horrific crimes are black so what does that tell you? There is something dreadfully wrong with this picture. Something is dreadfully wrong in the black community.“We voted for a change in 1998 and what a change we got. A change that has brought Bermuda to its knees and for us to rise again, we need to vote this Government out and vote in the OBA as they are our only salvation. And if people are stupid enough to vote the PLP in again, then we all need to get on our knees and do some heavy praying because only Divine intervention will be able to help us then.”PAT FERGUSON
