Term limits questions
August 25, 2012Dear Sir,Often, far too often, PLP supporters are accused by OBA supporters of voting with emotion and not using logic. Adding to the insult, we are accused of not even wishing to discuss the pertinent issues of the day. If the OBA supporters wish to be truthful, it is the OBA themselves that have mastered the art of “ducking the issue”. Today I will discuss a major issue: Term Limits. In a recent televised interview, Shadow Finance Minister Bob Richards was asked by Gary Moreno how the OBA would turn the economy around. “Suspend Term Limits and figure something out later” was effectively his reply.Figure something out later huh? Oh, OK. In the meantime let’s ask some pertinent questions about the “Suspension of Term Limits”,1. Will the suspension of term limits guarantee Bermudians a job?2. Will their removal ensure Bermudians upper mobility in their jobs?3. Will their removal ensure their children whose education they’ve financed an opportunity in their own country?4. Will the removal of term limits guarantee fair competition in the workplace?5. Will the removal of term limits assist Bermudians with getting international training for international opportunity here and abroad?6. How will the term limits, two-year suspension policy work in practice? Can we get some clarity please? After all, we are talking about a party that says they are “Putting Bermuda First”, correct? These questions have been submitted to the OBA on their official Facebook page for over two months. Thus far they have chosen not to reply. So I ask again who is ducking an issue that they will “figure out later on”. Bermudians want answers. In my next letter I will discuss more in depth the term “Emotions vs. Logic”.Stand strong familyCHRISTOPHER FAMOUSDevonshire
