Time to make a change

September 16, 2012Dear Sir,“Cut your cloth (according to your means)” was an expression that I and my three sisters grew up hearing my father say. I was too young then to understand what it meant, but now it is more important than ever. Although he was [as the expression went in those days], comfortably off, he would talk to us about “saving for a rainy day”, another old expression which has been forgotten by this Government. It is too late to teach our Finance Minister what she should have known all along, but what has she led this country into is a disgrace that must not be tolerated any longer, if not for ourselves then for our children and future generations. This debt will cripple us and our children for years to come, and so what we propose is the decent honourable thing to do, throw this Government out and put in a party that will honour the responsibilities of a Finance Minister, and not squander what is left in the kitty. The responsibility is ours now. As I have said before, now is the operative word. We have the chance to stop the haemorrhaging of the peoples’ purse before the patient, ie the Island, dies. You would think that anyone who rose to be Finance Minister, would know all about the meaning of “cut your cloth”. and the importance of not spending more than you earn. Otherwise you will either drown, or have the humiliation of having to ask someone for a loan, and then having to find the additional money to pay for that loan! Now we have the chance to do something, so let’s not walk away from what we know in our hearts must be done. We will not drown. Support the One Bermuda Alliance, bite the bullet. With teamwork and conviction we will be able to tell our children that things will be better, for us maybe a little late but it can be done, it must be done, because now is the pain for hundreds of people on this island, now is the time they need to have hope. So let’s do it, get out there and place your vote where it will be investing in good government for us the people and this beautiful lovely little island and the next generation to come.DIANA WILLIAMSPembroke
