Random act of kindness

September 20, 2012Dear Sir,I would like to say thank you to a wonderful taxi driver who came to my rescue on Monday afternoon outside the Fairmont Southampton entrance on South Shore Road. The chain on my motorcycle had come off, and wouldn’t you know, it was the one time I had left home without my cell phone.I tried to flag down several cars until at last a taxi coming from the hotel stopped to see what my trouble was. He allowed me to use his phone to call my husband (who was unable to leave work to assist me). He then proceeded to get down on his hands and knees (even though he was spotlessly pressed and dressed) to put the chain back on my bike. This random act of kindness on his part, enabled me to get to our friend’s cycle repair shop.Unfortunately, I did not get this courteous drivers name or license number. I just wanted to let him know that he was my knight in shining silvery-grey armour that day!It is comforting to realise there are still friendly and caring taxi operators on our roads. After all, they are the first and last impressions of Bermudians that visitors come into contact with when vacationing on our lovely island.HEIDI DESILVASandysEditor’s Note: Do you have a random act of kindness to tell? Send it to letters@royalgazette.bm and we will publish it.
