Beautiful, but looking rundown

Dumped: Garbage dumped in St George’s in 2010.

October 1, 2012Dear Sir,I have been reluctant to send a letter because I know there are other pressing issues in Bermuda, but “It’s Time to Go”, has said what I want to say and that is: Image is everything. To a tourist who comes here for the first time, he will report how clean or how pretty Bermuda is. Somerset, for example, is the main thoroughfare for tourists who come off cruise ships, not to mention this is the route the Queen took. With its dilapidated houses, overgrown weeds, trash, rickety roads, it’s a mess. I saw the other day a guy come on his bike and put a full garbage bag into a trash barrel at one of the bus stops. My mom used to say that if you look better you feel better. Bermudians need to feel better about their country and take pride once again, yes it is beautiful here but it is also untidy and run down in places. What about giving incentives for people to paint, purge, and plant around their homes and businesses? Designate a crew of workers for each parish to trim, paint etc preferably these workers live in that parish so they have a vested interest, instead of having crews from St George's work in Somerset and when needed they can go elsewhere.TRYING TO SEE THE BEAUTYWarwick
