Extending ‘a big thanks’October 28, 2012Dear Sir,On October 7, we marked the 15th Annual PartnerRe Women’s 5K Run & Walk with our biggest ever turnout — 1,100 women and girls — raising funds and awareness for the Women’s Resource Centre. Thanks to the generous participation of our title sponsor, PartnerRe Ltd, and all our supporting sponsors, we were able to donate all race proceeds to the, Women’s Resource Centre, this year’s chosen charity for the event. PartnerRe matched the entry fees total for a grand donation of $43,932.The funds will be used to create and promote awareness of the importance of the issue of “sexual assault”, the fact that it is an “issue” in our community, and to instill in women the education that they need in order to prevent it. The Women’s Resource Centre have designed a comprehensive media plan, trainings, partnerships and workshop with the aim to see a decrease in the numbers of women of all ages who are sexually assaulted. The Sexual Assault Response Team statistics for 2011 show a 50 percent increase in sexual assaults for the year 2011.On behalf of Mid-Atlantic Athletic Club (MAAC), we would like to extend a big thanks to all our supporters, volunteers, participants and sponsors, including PartnerRe, Butterfield & Vallis, Post Cereals, Arthur Morris Christensen, Spicelands, Newstead-Belmont Hills, Tokio Millennium, Pulp & Circumstance, Marketplace, Krys Global, Strands, Stefanel, Rosewood Tucker’s Point Harbourfront Restaurant, Willowstream Spa, Bolero, C-Travel, The Reefs, Sportseller, Miles Market, Harry’s, Positive Results Personal Training, Makin Waves and Barritts. Our thanks also go to the Parks Department once again for the use of the Botanical Gardens for the event. The grand tally raised by the PartnerRe Women’s 5K has now topped $360,000 since the event began in 1998 — money that has supported important female causes, including programmes to fight heart disease and breast cancer, physical abuse and drug dependency.Thank you!ALLY HARVEY, KATHY FULCHERRace DirectorsPartnerRe Women’s 5K
