It does come down to race
November 8, 2012Dear Sir,My people, Our Honourable Premier has stated that our election will be before year’s end. At long last! With the respective Parties going into Election Mode (for earnest), the general public has also followed suit. There has been public expression that the PLP are once again playing the ‘racecard’, according to popular radio talk shows. To that end, facts are facts. There is an obvious polarisation among our white community to embrace the accomplishments of the majority black PLP Government. It doesn’t end there! The blatant refusal to patronise predominantly Black Events/ Businesses.Take for instance the World Rugby Classic scheduled to commence November 11. With all this ‘doom and gloom’ propaganda regarding the economy, you can be rest assured that support for this event, as was evident last year, as well with the majority of white sponsored events, will be supported overwhelmingly by the reinsurance companies and expatriates. There has been talk as well regarding the demographics of the (black) Government Civil Service; that it doesn’t reflect the Country’s racial ‘breakdown’. Once again, obvious polarisation of the white community not to patronise/apply for majority black Government job opportunities.Bottom line, my fellow Bermudians, when you are willing to get honest and ‘keep-it-real’, it does come down to race. The black majority is and has been always willing to patronise whomever. However, the minority is consistent in their loyalty. Are we to conclude that the OBA really stands for ‘The Old Boys Association’? Considering the fact that those elected under the UBP banner refuse to relinquish their seats, under this so-called ‘New Party’.GLENN CHASEWarwick
