An open letter to an MP

November 24, 2012Dear SirThis letter was send to Patricia Gordon-Pamplin and copied to The Royal Gazette.Dear Mrs Patricia Gordon-Pamplin, JP MP.As a voter in Constituency 23, Paget West, I have a few questions of you, as a candidate to represent me and other constituents, before I head to the polls on December 17. Since returning home from living and working in China for the past four years, I have noticed more and more blue collar expats in restaurants, hotels and other low skilled positions. The current government says that it is a party for the Bermuda people, yet why are thousands of young Bermudians being denied work? I also see a real conflict of interest by current members of government who benefit personally from the increase in foreign blue collar workers. Can you please explain to me what you and your party will specifically do to rectify the current unemployment, discriminatory hiring practices and conflicts of interest within government.I am also worried about the spiralling debt, and its current and future affects on Bermuda. The current government consistently announces that it is ‘investing in the people’, yet since returning home I have only become aware of crumbling infrastructure, less funding of charities, an inefficient bloated civil service, and rampant cronyism. Can you please explain to me what you and your party will specifically do to ensure that our children don’t inherit this debt, that organisations which support the most vulnerable in society receive adequate funding, and that all government projects go out to legitimate and fair. From my extensive travels around the globe, I truly believe we as Bermudians are in a unique position to create a fair and just society, based on merit, hard work and equal opportunity for all. Can you please briefly tell me your vision for Bermuda’s future, and how you personally are working to realise it.ANGELO M PIMENTALPaget
