Strange irony a request

November 29, 2012Dear Sir,Re: Dangerous Stretch of Road Outside of the Flame Restaurant on North Shore RoadA news story in today’s Royal Gazette mentions that the owner of the Flame Restaurant on North Shore Road in Devonshire is calling on Government to improve the dangerous stretch of road outside of his restaurant. He cites the fact that three people have died on that stretch of road in the past six years. What the owner has not revealed in the article is that the Development Applications Board had turned down his planning application for the restaurant, because, among other things, it would “result in an increase in traffic and turning movements at the access to the site which will result in danger to other traffic users”. The application was subsequently upheld by the Minister on appeal.I find it quite ironic that the owner of the Flame Restaurant is now urging the Road Safety Council to “determine if any additional warning signals or apparatus is required to lower speeds and heighten awareness to reduce the chance of an accident at this location” when there is little doubt that the restaurant is adding to the traffic danger. Maybe the owner is requesting the Government and the Road Safety Council to slow down the traffic so that his customers can more safely enter and exit his restaurant and, at the same time, increase his customer base.FOR OPENENNESS & TRANSPARENCYSmith’s
