Incredible and repulsive

December 4, 2012Dear Sir,I put myself forward for public service under the UBP in 1998 in a losing effort to retain the government. At no time did I ever consider myself as a black surrogate or being used to hoodwink and bamboozle members of my own race, further to that it offends my integrity and Christian commitment to do such a dastardly and revolting thing. How other people may define my actions to serve my country is a matter over which I have no control. Contrary to some thinking in this country, there are some of us who aspire to principles and convictions about the way forward without racial considerations! The PLP won in 1998 and I came to terms with that 14 years ago irrespective of their abysmal performance. It was my single pleasure to run with Pat Gordon Pamplin who was successful in being elected to the betterment of this country. The black candidates were not sell-outs and “Uncle Toms” as has been popularised by many, but working along with white Bermudians for the betterment of all. The fall from grace of the UBP was eventual and natural as will happen to PLP sooner or later, I’m sure of that! To hear former colleagues accept the characterisation as being surrogates is incredible and repulsive notwithstanding a commissioned consultant’s report on election strategy. The black involvement in the UBP spans over four decades and to have our contributions impugned by recent developments is unfair and inaccurate. I was and continue to be an advocate for Good Governance for all. By the way I wish my name sake R Wayne Scott much success in this modern era.WAYNE B SCOTT
