Getting out of the death spiral
December 8, 2012Dear Sir,If Bermuda is to move forward and get out of this economic “death spiral”, then it must be done by all Bermudians, black and white, working together. Many businesses are running at a loss and just holding on in the hope that we have a change of Government. In as much as the Progressive Labour Party successfully branded the United Bermuda Party as the “white” party. In so doing, they also accepted the mantle of being the ‘black’ party themselves. Neither is wholly true, perhaps, but the image created has become fixed in the minds of the populace; and just as many black people could not vote for the UBP, so most white people cannot support the PLP. We must move on. Both of the old adversaries have run their course and must ‘die’ before we can move forward as a Country. The UBP has gone and we must now decide if it is time for the PLP to return to the backbench while we try to pull ourselves back from the edge of the precipice and rescue our Country from this (largely self inflicted) economic depression. We do not have the luxury of time on our side. The world has totally changed around us over the last four years. We too must change if we are to survive. The One Bermuda Alliance is unproven in Government, but at least it is neither the PLP or the UBP, despite the smear campaigns to link it to the past. We cannot endure five more years of the kind of Government we have had since 2007. We cannot take a chance that somehow the PLP will suddenly become enlightened to reality and make a wholesale change in their approach. They have had 14 years to do so and have failed. If PLP supporters cannot bring themselves to vote against their party and for true progress, then they should do the right thing for Bermuda and stay at home on polling day. We have only a few days left to save Bermuda; for ourselves, for our children and their children. By 2017 it will be too late. Let us all work together for our future in making a true New Bermuda. Vote OBA.BREW STIRPembrokePs I am not now and have never been a member of the OBA.
