Vince Ingham and business

December 9, 2012Dear Sir,I read with much interest comments made by Vincent Ingham on December 6 at the forum held for Progressive Labour Party supporters at Victor Scott School when challenged by the Pembroke community. He says we have got employers and businesses in this country who are doing some things right now for business reasons only. Interesting comment isn’t Mr. Ingham a former executive member of the former United Bermuda Party and knew then and surely knows now what drives the economy? You know, the ones that create jobs, generate huge amounts of foreign exchange, ie dollars we need to pay interest of around $240,000 per day in support of Bermuda’s debt of about $1.45 billion or more. He goes on to say: “Guess who’s taking the pain right now? Our people, because that’s who’s getting cut” because of the employers and business. So who was to blame when Mr Ingham was a director of Butterfield’s Bank and around $1 billion was wiped from shareholder value? The Bank use to pay around $40 million a year in dividends. Those dividends used to keep and maintain jobs, supported families in a significant way for example, helped to pay loans and mortgages, school fees and sustain seniors and oh yes, supported charities like the Family Centre. Need we be reminded of what must now be hundreds of jobs lost from the tragedy at Butterfield’s Bank and yes, Mr Ingham was there.Sadly the PLP belittle and insult the intelligence of their supports and all people of this Island with these ridiculous statements, TV puppet ads and childish radio campaign ads when truth be known, it was the PLP’s mismanagement of the Government purse with excessive spending, ministerial and other members’ luxury travel habits, not to mention their arrogance in poorly treating our guest companies and workers who had left this Island in droves, resulting in rental properties left vacant and Bermudians not having jobs or the ability to pay their mortgages or even enough cash to purchase groceries. Stop with the blaming and acknowledge the mismanagement of this Island and tell us how you are going to put this Island back on its feet. Bringing up stories of what the UBP did when they don’t exist now is another insult to our young people. Some of our young people have seen the light and have joined the new party of the One Bermuda Alliance because they do understand and want a better Bermuda.NOT A FOOLSt George’s
