Dear Sir,

The Progressive Labour Party hierarchy did not show much united loyalty to their former speaker, Stanley Lowe. Why should they expect Randy Horton to show so much loyalty to them? It might have been different if they had valued him enough to offer him a place in the Cabinet. However they seemed to have preferred to dump the older generation even when they had skills which the PLP hierarchy badly needs. In any case it probably is not a priority for the black electorate. If the rest of the hierarchy were to collectively commit to the needs of their black supporters and act on that commitment it would not really matter if Mr Horton were Speaker or not.

There has been a lot of criticism of both of the former PLP Premiers, but most of those critics often forget that there were 11(?) others in the Cabinet of each of them. Those 11 never acted collectively in the interest of the black community because they were each too concerned about remaining in the cabinet with its perks for their own personal welfare. When they resigned or were fired from the cabinet it was always for a personal reason. If either of those cabinets had acted collectively in the interest of their black constituency many of the things for which the former Premiers were criticised may not have happened. It is time for the PLP hierarchy to think of the things that matter to the black community and act collectively in their interest rather than merely being concerned with what matters to them individually or to the PLP hierarchy.
