Time for a change

March 5, 2013Dear Sir,The Corporation of Hamilton should be abolished. The taxes now paid to the CoH should be added to the Land Tax Department tax bills to be paid by rate payers. The functions now carried out by the CoH should be taken over by Government. In so far as Government departments need more staff for this purpose they can employ present CoH staff. The CoH City Hall should be converted into a Judicial Building for the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court Registry, Library and other facilities. The Sessions House is not suitable for the Judiciary and it should accommodate the Senate and become our Parliament building. The Art Gallery and Theatre in the City Hall should move to other premises. When the Government can afford to do so there should be a multi-level car park built on the Corporation’s Par-la-Ville property with the two upper floors accommodating an art gallery and theatre. The CoH plan to have a hotel on this property is as silly as the CoH plan for the Hamilton water front.WILLIAM M COX
