No right to drive that way

March 13, 2013Dear Sir,As the driving habits on our roads continue to deteriorate, there is something I cannot recall seeing in print that should be a concern to all. That is, the transport of children on motorcycles. I understand that not everyone is fortunate enough to own or otherwise have use of an automobile so sometimes need to transport their child by motorcycle. Why though do we allow little ones to stand in front of the driver? With the way people drive, I’m sure there will come a time when we’ll be reading of a child killed when thrown from the front of a bike. Is it legal to transport another person this way?Lastly, to the rider wearing the bright red jacket with the white letters HH on the front who was driving along North Shore, you had a child sitting behind you. You came upon me out of nowhere at high speed, overtook me, then a truck in front of me and other cars in front of it till you and your passenger were out of sight. It was a boy likely around eight to ten years of age from what I could tell. If you want to kill yourself, go ahead. But, you have no right to endanger the life of this child who is in your care. Whether they are your son or not, you have no right to jeopardise their life. Bermuda, if you entrust your child to another on a cycle, please take care to do what you can to ensure that rider behaves responsibly and does not put your child’s life in danger.CONCERNED PARENTHamilton Parish
