Unfair to families

April 1, 2013

Dear Sir,

My children’s father works for a business in Hamilton and they have been deducting $150 per week from his paycheck for child support. The human resource department at this business has decided to stop sending the funds collected for child support to Magistrates’ Court on a weekly basis. The child support is now held by this company for a whole month before it is sent to the courts. I have called Magistrates’ Court and was told that it may be easier for the company to send monthly. This is very unfair to the children and parents. How about the people who cannot afford to wait a whole month for money they should receive weekly? This is nothing but pure laziness. I urge the managers of this company to review the recently adapted changes to the sending of child support payments so that children and parents do not suffer. Bermuda is in a recession and people are struggling to pay their bills and a weekly payment is much more effective than waiting a whole month for funds that are owed to them.

FRUSTRATED MOM
