Cost of Civil Service must be reduced
May 6, 2013Dear Sir,What are the civil servants doing now? With the large exodus of people leaving the Island all Government department employees have a lot less to do.It is well documented that Bermuda has a Civil Service vastly larger than it should have and that was before 10,000 people left the Island and people are still leaving. In private industry thousands have been laid off. If you are still employed you are working reduced hours and/or for less money. Businesses are still closing and now a school is closing. The city looks like a ghost town. Go into a bank and see how empty it is and how many employees are no longer there.Bermuda has a huge deficit and our biggest expense now is the massive wage bill for the Civil Service. Our only hope of reducing the deficit is for the civil servants to switch to a four-day work week or face lay-offs. Bermuda has no choice.LAID OFFWarwick
