May 17, 2013Dear Sir,I cannot help but laugh at the report of a man being arrested for breaking into Westgate to smuggle contraband in. Goes to show how lax security is there. Shows also how little the male who was on probation at time feared being caught. The facility should be called Westgate Condominiums and Spa as it is a total joke.As I’ve stated before, restorative justice should be reviewed and if nobody wishes to do that, then the punitive measures must become harsher. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona created the tent city jail. He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and pornographic magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but “G” movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn’t get sued for discrimination. He took away cable TV until he found out there was a Federal Court Order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney Channel and The Weather Channel. When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it’s gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs. He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them: “This isn’t The Ritz/Carlton. If you don’t like it, don’t come back.”Now this is the prison warden we need here. We don’t need chain gangs, as that would be unsightly in Bermuda. But you get the idea! Put these boys to manual labour and the women too. They don’t like it, don’t come back. Why must Bermudians spend $80,000+ per prisoner a year?! We have a debt to pay after all!ROBERT DAVIES JRMiami
