We need another incinerator

Tynes Bay: Another incinerator would add power to the electricity grid.

July 1, 2013Dear Sir,A third incinerator system needs to be built and attached to our present Tynes Bay facility. When one of the two systems was down for repairs many months ago leaving only one unit to handle our household garbage, truckloads upon truckloads of those blue bagged units of trash were moved to Morgan’s Point for storage until the system under repair was put back in service. This movement of truckloads of bailed trash must have cost Government hundreds of thousands, if not millions of tax payers dollars to move back and forth to and from Morgan’s Point. My solution now is build the third system and attach it to the present Tynes Bay facility so we could burn all the horticultural waste that is piled up at the Pembroke Marsh, this would improve the whole of the Pembroke dump area, the ashes that come from the Tynes Bay incinerating plant is mixed with cement and is made into those 850lb cinder blocks that you see dumped at our airport now.A more useful way to use these cinder blocks would be to start having them stacked up in readiness for when a new causeway area is built.Twice in my lifetime I have seen the Pembroke dump set fire to itself by spontaneous combustion and it then becomes a serious problem for all concerned as to how we are going to handle the situation. I can assure you it will happen again without warning anybody.Building a third unit attached to our Tynes Bay facility not only would it add more electric voltage to Belco but it would provide more work for our unemployed Bermudians.Just think what a beautiful sight it would be if all that horticultural waste was not there, it could be turned into a playing field, a park, or even a nature reserve. It would also put more value into the homes that surround the area.PETER BROMBY SRPaget
