City sidewalks are unsafe
August 9, 2013Dear Sir,This is a copy of a letter that was sent to the Premier, among others, on behalf of a stroke victim.Attention: Premier Cannonier & Mr. Mayor,Approximately six years ago this person suffered two strokes which left them with some weakness. They’ve been successful in learning to walk again; however, one of their challenges is that the sidewalks in the City are not very safe for persons like them. They’d worked very hard to learn to walk again, but are not comfortable with our sidewalks. The only way for them to say it, is that they [sidewalks] are uneven, with far too many lifts and cracks in the tiles. This person emphasizes how much they would love to enjoy a walk through the City on a lunch break, but are afraid that they might fall.Is it possible that the City engineers could go and survey our sidewalks, especially out side of St. Paul’s AME Church? (Victoria & Court Street) Or they would like to invite you, or someone from your offices, to join them on a walk through the City?I further wish to take this opportunity thanking you for all that you have already done for seniors and the physically challenged in our community, and thank you in advance for addressing our concerns.DISABLED DOES NOT MEAN UNABLE
