Government owes me $55
September 27, 2013
Dear Sir,
Please allow me space to add my 2cents worth to the current discussion regarding parking fees etc.
Last month, a few days prior to leaving the island for a 3 week vacation, I parked my car on Reid street and set my electronic parking device.
On return to my car 40 minutes later I found a parking ticket stuck to my window.
Knowing that I had not gone over my parking time allowance of 1 hour, to say I was surprised (and annoyed) was an understatement.
After scrutinizing the poor handwriting on the ticket I discovered that I had been ticketed for displaying an incorrect zone number. What was displayed was the zone for Bulls head car park.
Because I did not want to be eventually summonsed for nonpayment of a parking ticket (do they still summons people for this I wonder?) I mailed a cheque to the Accountant General once I reached home, remember I was travelling in a few days. Over a month later I have yet to receive a receipt.
When I returned home from vacation it occurred to me to try and find out how much it costs to park at Bulls head.
Bulls head $7
Reid street $2
Parking fine $50.
I reckon that the Government owes me $55.
What do other readers think?
A little common sense should prevail here methinks, but I guess common sense is not so common these days eh?
So much for my 2 cents worth!!
More confusion to come!!
