Devaluing Bermudians
October 1, 2013
Dear Sir,
I recently heard the Premier's impassioned comments in reference to his job initiative and race.
He, like others, must remember that, as a result of almost two hundred years of the unabashed practice of white supremacy and white domination, despite the recent changes, the relationship between the two communities is still very toxic.
The fact that no government, not even the PLP, has ever acknowledged that centuries of white affirmative action needs to be countered by the concept and practice of black affirmative action policies has consequences.
The inevitable result is that the attitude of the right of white supremacy and white domination is still very wide spread and is equally inevitably met with, often justifiable, suspicion and distrust.
Any international company that can only afford $25,000 for the right to Bermuda is (a) not likely to provide many jobs for Bermudians and (b) will be justified in viewing Bermuda and Bermudians with contempt and of little value or consequence other than as a source of profit and exploitation.
Yours etc.
Eva N. Hodgson
