Deafened by the silence

(Photo by David Skinner) ¬ Borrowing time: Minister of Finance Bob Richards yesterday said Government is seeking to borrow up to $800 million to cover budget deficits over the next three years. Government wants to take advantage of favourable market conditions now to lock in potential borrow cost savings of between $20 million and $40 million.

Dear Sir,

The silence emanating from the Ministry of Finance as we get closer to Budget 2014 is deafening. As a loyal supporter of the OBA but, more importantly, the Anybody But The PLP Party, I sure hope those sounds of silence are golden.

If Minister [Bob] Richards thinks that he is going to avoid dealing with anything raised in the SAGE Report and just heap taxes on the responsible people of Bermuda, he will have anarchy on his hands and in his party. It’s typical of politicians to hold their cards to their vest but if he springs a revenue producing budget with no real attempt to address the real problem ... expenses ... then the disappointment in and with the OBA Government, who promised solutions, will be enormous.

I hope I am very wrong about the silence of these lambs.
