Join quest for lower living expenses

22 April 2014

Dear Sir,

I respectfully entreat the medium of this newspaper to appeal to the thousands of seniors (65 over) on this our Island home.

In appreciation of the enormous dedication of Louise Jackson, OBE, to the people of Bermuda, and in particular to us seasoned seniors, that each one of us may, as a memorial to her consistency come together for the benefit of each other in our quest for lower living expenses, expressively in the form of a petition to the Bermuda Electric Light Company.

We are grateful to Age Concern for their Energy Hardship Fund, which began in 2011 following reports of ‘seniors struggling to pay their Belco bills’. Age Concern is for seniors, if you are not a member, please become one, it costs $20 a year.

On August 16th 2011 we pensioners received our last increase of three percent. This was after having already endured a freeze on pension increases for two years, 2009-2010. This year, 2014, will be the third year without an increase and no mention of one in the last budget.

Please, if you are able and willing, collect a sign-up sheet for the petition. You may reach me at 293 1489 or leave message on 291-1306.

I know. Without our Heavenly Father we can do absolutely nothing, but when we put our weakness with His strength and our trust with His omnipotent power, “all things are possible”. Let us ask in faith believing “for without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whomever cometh to God must believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”.

Thank You.
