An insult to nature
June 4th 2014
Dear Sir,
I do so hope I will be forgiven for hogging letters to The Editor, but I feel so passionate about things, especially cannabis being legally considered into this lovely little Island. I will try to stay quiet for awhile after this. First off, may I congratulate you Michael Dunkley for standing firm, you will suffer all the slings and arrows, as another man did century’s ago, but your comfort will be that you are doing “The right thing”.
Did you ever envisage as a schoolboy at Saltus, that one day you would be asked to make such a momentous decision? A decision that will effect the lives of our future generations? Why are we so destructive against nature? We have polluted the waters of the earth, so, because of the metals in the seas we will not be able to eat sushi for very much longer or one day maybe, any fish at all!
Masks will have to be worn in the not too distant future if we continue polluting the air with the gasses and exhaust from cars and factory, also with the lack of oxygen eventually could kill us all. Farmers who feed the world will be fighting drought or floods from the icebergs melting, or polluted rain will poison the crops and us. Why? Because we keep wanting bigger, better and more.
In pursuit of progress, we have often become blinded by greed, and so lost the art of being satisfied with having enough. So now, we want to damage our children’s brains with cannabis, a documented harmful weed plant that reduces the IQ of a young person to eight points which reduces them to the lowest third of intelligence. So in time when our generation has gone by the way, the world will be governed by a bunch of burned out zombies!
So one could almost say at this early stage: “Do we deserve to survive when we continue to insult nature?” It will be interesting to see if we will be given the opportunity to decide, or perhaps nature will. So the battle is on. Nature vs nurture?
