Elected leaders should take a pay cut

Dear Sir,

Wednesday’s editorial, “Feeding the white elephant in the room”, was spot on.

We are all tired of supporting a bloated and inefficient civil service. Government workers are the only folks who have not been suffering for the past four years.

But our elected representatives should lead from the front and take 50 per cent or 75 per cent pay cuts — the five per cent was paltry and insignificant — and be brave enough to make unpopular spending decisions until we get the budget balanced.

Political ambitions need to be set aside before we all lose what little we have left: our international reputation.

All Bermudians should be working to ensure that we can live within our means until we can rebuild our economy.

Those who don’t want to can leave. Go and see how good life is somewhere else.

EB,

Warwick
