This Bill is an affront to true democracy

New Mayor of Hamilton Charles Gosling. Do proposed amendments to the Municipalities Act negate decisions of voters who have elected the mayor and his council? A reader thinks so

Dear Sir,

I have serious concerns about the proposed amendments to the Municipalities Act that will allow a government minister to assume control of the corporations if it is deemed necessary. What about the voters who have the right to vote in Hamilton or St George?

My understanding of the amendment is that it negates the decisions of the voters who have elected the mayor and council if the appropriate minister decides that it would be in the best interests of the people to do so. How arrogant is this Bill? As a ratepayer and voter in the City of Hamilton, I feel that this Bill is an affront to true democracy.
