Congratulatory greetings from Canada,

Congratulations to Bermuda's winner of gold in the Parapan American Games in Toronto, Jessica Cooper Lewis! Globally, Jessica has shown stamina and perseverance, winning in Switzerland, Australia and now Canada, bringing a planetary awareness to the tiny Atlantic island.

My husband and I recently lived in Bermuda for four wonderful years and, while there, I reconnected with Jessica's grandmother, who hails from the same province and hometown as me.

This lady has achieved many accomplishments in Bermuda, earning the OBE before answering to the moniker “Braggin' Granny”. Is it not ironic that the third generation of this family earned gold on the soil of her grandmother's former country?

The achievements of these two remarkable Bermudian women make us all proud and further cement the existing and growing bond between Bermuda and Canada. My hat is off to each of them!
