Government should read Richards book

Considerable foresight: Bob Richards receives more praise for his book (File photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

I would like to compliment E.T. “Bob” Richards on his book Bermuda: Back from the Brink. He concisely discusses topics from the airport fiasco, banking, immigration, tourism, tax and international business to the insane expansion of the national debt and its consequences for our future.

His warnings are made abundantly clear and we would all be unwise not to heed them.

Mr Richards has shown himself to have considerable foresight and has tried to be proactive, not reactive. Alas, many of his wise predictions of the past have fallen on deaf ears.

His invaluable role as finance minister and deputy leader of the One Bermuda Alliance’s brief years helped a great deal to salvage some of our damaged international reputation and irresponsible economic behaviour of previous years.

We are all the poorer for not having Mr Richards at the economic and financial helm of our island.

Our present government would be well advised to read Mr Richards’s book several times over, study it, learn from it and act responsibly upon it.
